What are cable seals?

These small components are specifically designed to create a seal surrounding a connection from a wire to a panel or enclosure. Manufactured from specialist materials, cable seals offer resistance against water damage and other elements such as debris, dust, and other environmental factors. Cable penetration seals also offer protection against fire and are often applied as fire-guarding solutions in the naval industry.

Usually constructed with polyolefin, cable seals are designed to be heat-shrinkable. This means that the compound is able to provide a reliable and protective seal when heated, as it shrinks to give a snug and moldable fit around a connection. Offering excellent insulation properties, a heat shrink cable entry seal is heated up with a heat gun to secure the compound in place.

Once applied, the cable seal is fully moisture-proof and offers EMI shielding and environmental protection, creating a safe and effective barrier that prevents damage to the component and connected electrical equipment.

Different types of cable seals

Heat shrink ratio

If your job requires a particularly tight fit, a cable entry seal with a ratio of 4:1 will offer a more secure solution, such as the TE Connectivity ES2000-NO.4-B7-0-90MM.
